Trailblazer Golf finishes fourth at VU Spring Invitational

JASPER, Ind. – The 2025 Vincennes University Men's Golf Spring regular season came to a close earlier this week when the Trailblazers hosted the 2025 VU Spring Invitational at Sultan's Run Golf Club in Jasper, Ind.

The two-day 36-hole tournament began with round one on Sunday, with the final round played Monday morning.

The Trailblazers were led in the tournament by an outstanding bounce back round by freshman Brock Naile (Trico, Ill.) who finished round one with a 79 before moving up seven spots on the leaderboard after posting a final round even par 72 to finish in a tie for sixth.

Naile finished in a tie with VU teammate freshman Kadin Gibson (Franklin, Ind.) who got the tournament off to a hot start with an opening round one-over par 73 before coming back in the final round with a 78 to finish tied for sixth overall.

Gibson finished the tournament with six birdies combined, including four in round one and three of those coming in the front nine holes.

VU freshman Matthew Mills (Boonville, Ind.), who played the tournament as an individual was the next Blazer on the leaderboard, posting a first round 79 before closing with an 80 in the final round to place 16th overall.

Sophomore Alex Nealis (Olney, Ill.) finished in a tie for 21st overall after coming in with an 80 in round one and 81 in round two, while freshman Parker Steininger (Vincennes, Ind.) placed 25th overall after taking six shots off his opening round 84 to finish the final round with a 78.

Freshman Landon Gardner (Danville, Ind.) closed out the VU team scorers in the tournament with a monster eight shot improvement from day one after shooting an 87 Sunday and coming back strong with a 79 in the final round, including an eagle on hole six to shoot two-under for the front nine Monday.

The tournament was rounded out by freshman Brayden Gough (Tuscola, Ill.) and sophomore Jackson Stone (Vincennes, Ind.) who played as individuals and posted very consistent round of 90 each day.

The Trailblazers will now shift their focus to postseason play when VU takes part in the Region 24 Championships Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29 at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill.

There the Trailblazers will look to qualify for the 2025 NJCAA Division II National Championships, which will be held at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind. Tuesday, May 20 through Friday, May 23.
