Trailblazer cross country teams earn pair of runner-up finishes
Normal, Ill, - The Vincennes University men's and women's cross country teams came home today with a pair of second place team finishes at the Heartland CC Classic.
Normal, Ill, - The Vincennes University men's and women's cross country teams came home today with a pair of second place team finishes at the Heartland CC Classic.
Sophomore Meagan Moreno (Morton, Ill.) and sophomore Kyra Young (South Bend, Ind.) Led the charge for VU finishing first and second in the meet running 19:17 and 20:28 on a challenging course.
Rounding out the top 5 were freshman Jacy Collins (Shakamak, Ind.) (11th, 22:00), freshman Kaitlyn Koenig (Terre Haute, Ind.) (21st, 24:49) and sophomore Emily Remsburg (Elnora, Ind.) (28th, 25:56).
VU Women's Cross Country Coach Chris Gafner says:
"We competed well today. Our top three had a strong day, and there are some of our women that are just returning from injury or racing on tired legs. We have three more weeks to get ready for the Region 24 meet, where we hope to be in our best form of the season."
The Trailblazer men were led by sophomore Nick Vogt (Cincinnati, Ohio) (6th, 28:49). Also scoring for VU were freshman Trenton Faulkner (Vincennes) (8th, 29:39), freshman Walter Tanui (Eldoret, Kenya) (14th, 30:301),sophomore Joshua Hodge (Rushville, Ind.) (21st, 32:14), and freshman Gavyn Mundt (Hanover, Ind.) (23rd, 32:16)
VU Men's Cross Country Coach Chris Gafner says:
"We got through this meet as best we could today. We've been bit by the injury bug and we really need to get fully healthy if we are going to reach our potential this season. Luckily we have a long break before our next meet to get where we need to be."
