NORMAL, Ill. – The Vincennes University baseball season likely came to a close Thursday afternoon at the Corn Crib in Normal, Ill. with the No. 5 seed Blazers falling 6-5 to No. 3-seed Parkland College in an elimination game at the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC) tournament. The game Thursday began almost exactly like VU’s opening round game against Danville Area with Vincennes trailing early after Parkland hit a three-run home run in the first inning. VU would get a run back in the second however, after a leadoff triple by sophomore Connor VanLannen (Clinton, Ind.). VanLannen would later score on a groundout by freshman Jordan Roth (Delphi, Ind.).

Vincennes picked up two wins and completed the four-game weekend sweep over John Wood, winning game one of the day 6-2 and taking game two 12-0 in five innings. VU got on the board first in game one of the day when sophomore Ryan Bartley (Tuscola, Ill.) led off the third inning with a single.

Vincennes earned a spot in the MWAC Conference postseason tournament next week with a game one 7-2 win and continued to better their chances of getting a higher seed with a 5-1 game two win. John Wood got on the board first in game one in the third inning, taking an early 1-0 lead over the host Trailblazers.

The Trailblazers took game one over the Cobras 7-4 behind yet another really great pitching performance behind sophomore Connor VanLannen (Clinton, Ind.). Parkland battled back to take game two in comeback fashion, winning 7-5 over Vincennes.

Vincennes fell in the first game of the day to NJCAA Division-I No. 7 Wabash Valley 16-0 in five innings and fell 16-7 to NJCAA Division-II No. 6-ranked Kellogg Community College in the afternoon game. Wabash Valley wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first game of the day, as the leadoff hitter got on base with a single and came around to score on a fielding error later in the inning, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
